Men’s conference during World Mental Health Week | Harare 14 May 2022

  • Attendees: 50
  • Agenda: Be that man mental health aware

On the 14th of May 2022, a men’s conference was held in commemoration of the World Mental Health week. The conference was held at Batanai Gardens and was partnered by friendship Bench and Mwanasikana wanhasi Ndiwe Foundation. The conference celebration was centred on the theme “Loneliness” and its impact on men’s mental health. The event was graced with four panellists; Bruce from Friendship Bench, Ethel from Mwanasikana wanhasi, the Guest speaker being Mr Marshall Gore and Lameck Muzangaza from Africa Healing Foundation as the moderator. And a total of   people attended the event.

The main aim of the conference was to spread awareness and encourage men to cry out for help whenever they feel things are not okay; traditionally it is believed that women are the only people who can always cry for help, but this is killing our world silently causing disasters like that of suicides. During the discussions the main issues raised where centred on the role of culture, gender socialization, gender stereotyping and stigmatization being the major causes of loneliness. Also stigmatization directed towards the males was also discussed.
